Tips for Improving Playing Speed

Here are a couple tips to help you practice in the meantime. Start out slow with about 4 or 5 notes, playing them over and over. As your speed increases and you feel comfortable more comfortable you can start moving around the fretboard, adding more notes along the way. Perhaps, for some people it helps to take things one step at a time, but it can also be helpful to play all of the notes a few times through to get a feel for where your hands & fingers need to be. Another thing you can do is pick the first note and then hammer onto the rest note as well as then pull off of them, if you can master this you will definitely become faster.

Plucking with your strumming hand can also greatly increase your playing speed. A thumb pick could be just what you need if you are using this option.
